The Don’t Come Bet

This lesson will be short for the same reasons that Lesson Five was fairly short. You already know how a Don’t Come bet works. You just need a walk through the park to add this play to your playbook.

The Don’t Come bet is similar to the Don’t Pass bet. It has the same house odds and all the same rules, except for one. That one rule is; a Don’t Come bet can only be made after a point is established.

Here are the moves that you will make with a Don’t Come bet. Anytime you are playing the Don’t Come, you are betting that the dice will not pass, that the 7 will roll before the number that your Don’t Come bet is behind in order to win.

Ø      After a point is established, you may make a Don’t Come bet by placing a bet in the Don’t Come field or box. A Don’t Come bet is also referred to as a “DC”. Slang as in “Lay odds on my “DC!”

Ø      The Don’t Come bet, like a Don’t Pass Line bet, wins on the first roll of the bet,  when Craps,  2, or  3, rolls, and the bet pushes with a 12.

Ø       A Don’t Come bet loses to 7 or 11 on the first roll that it is bet.

Ø      Any other number rolled is a box number, 4, 5, 6, 8, 9, 10, and the dealer will move your Don’t Come bet from the Don’t Come field and place it “behind the corresponding number

      in the smaller box above the number. See example 6-B. Your Don’t Come bet is positioned “behind” the box number according to your table position. This is how the dealer is able to keep track of the bets.

Ø      The Don’t Come bet wins when the 7 rolls before the number that the Don’t  Come bet is behind.  Should the box number roll before the 7, the Don’t Come bet loses and the dealer will say, “ Down behind”, and remove the losing bet.

Ø      As a Don’t Come player, you are betting that the dice will not Pass and are playing for the

       7-Out!

Ø      A Don’t Come bet is a second bet if you already have a Don’t Pass Line bet working.

Placing Odds on a Don’t Come Bet

Once on a box number with a Don’t Come bet, you are allowed to take (free) odds. Just like the Don’t Pass Line bet. It is recommended that you take double odds only. Unlike the Don’t Pass Line bet, (when you are the one moving chips around), the odds for a Don’t Come bet are moved by the dealer. Politely getting the dealer's attention, waiting your turn, and in a clear, loud voice, say “Lay Odds on my Don’t Come bet” or “ Lay Odds on my "8"…saying the number "8" for example, that your Don’t Come is on.” Remember, when laying odds, you lay more to win less because you have the advantage and the bet is probable to win with those odds.

Ø      Lay 2 to win 1 for the 4/10

Ø      Lay 3 to win 2 for the 5/9

Ø      Lay 6 to win five for the 6/8

You then place the chips down on the layout in the Come field for the dealer to pick up. The dealer will then place the lay odds bet on top of your Don’t Come bet. The odds portion will be slightly off center to that of the Come bet. See the example in photo 6-C. Now you wait and watch until either the number repeats or a 7 rolls to end the game.

The Don’t Come bet pays exactly like a Don’t Pass Line bet. The Don’t Come bet is paid even money and the odds portion is paid true odds. House advantage .4%

One Little Thing

One thing to know about a Don’t Come bet on a Come Out roll is that it is working and the odds are working. This means a 7 on a Come Out roll causes the Don’t Come bet(s) to win. The odds portion, of the Don’t Come bet are on, live, or working. The player may, if they so chose, start the process over with a new Don’t Pass Line bet on the Come Out and follow that with a Don’t Come bet after a point has been established. However, should the number roll that a Don’t Come bet is behind, the Don’t Come bet and the lay odds are lost.

The pay off for a Don’t Come bet with odds is just like that for a Don’t Pass bet with odds. The Don’t Come bet is paid even money and the odds laid are paid true odds. See example of a bet paid for the number “9” in example 5-D.

Let’s Review the Don’t Come Bet 

The Don’t Come bet is similar to the Don’t Pass Line bet in the way it is played and paid. A Don’t Come bet is working on a Come Out roll and any lay odds are also working. When a Don't Come bet wins, 7-Out, the game is over the dice will move to a new shooter and it is a new Come Out cycle. You can make as many Don’t Come bets as you have bankroll for once a point is establish, covering all six box numbers if you wish. (Though not recommended)

This concludes Lesson Five. In Lesson Six we are going to learn about Place Betting. Place betting means you get to pick your favorite number(s) to win. “Press, parlay, take me down please!” “Place your bets, we are Out on a point!”
