Author: mman26 Slogan: Hi yo, hi yo, it’s off to Vegas I go! ok I have tried several different grips when tossing the dice but I am still having trouble keeping the dice on their axis during flight, I keep a fairly loose grip and I think that my throwing motion is fluid. now could it possibly be the dice I am using they look like they may not be perfect (and they look like casino dice not home game board die)? Any help or tips will be appreciated Ron |

Author: irishsetter Home Page: ~woof~ I don’t know when you’re going to Vegas. If you have the time, go to Gambler’s General Store and get a stick of new dice ($9.95 -ish). Now, pick a grip and practice like mad. I’ve found if you muck around too much, changing your grip, you won’t master any. Once you’ve chosen a specific grip, it would be easier to make recommendations. In the meantime. The dice should fly together (keep em’ low), they should rotate at the same rate, land at the same time in the same proximate area, and stop at the same time. Good luck! |

Author: mman26 Slogan: high yo high yo around the world I go thanks Irishsetter I have only attempted two grips really and one of them is one I made up it is like the two fingered tongs grip on your site but I rest my index finger across the top, the other grip is the yuri 3 finger top grip. the reason I was thinking it might be the dice is I had a pair of used dice from fitzgeralds that I got from a travel agency in town. and with my grip they seemed to stay on axis well I lost one of the die so I went and bought a pair of red ones from a casino suplyer where I live. and they don’t want to stay on axis with either grip I use. |

Author: heavy Slogan: Afganastan: Nuclear Enema Goes Here I agree with the I.S. on this one. Pick a grip you’re comfortable with and stick with it. I’m a confirmed stacker and have good results with it from seven or eight feet out. Remember, you don’t have to keep it on axis every time to shift the percentages in your favor. MORE important is to pick a set and grip, then practice it over and over while recording your roll results. I’m not concerned about seven outs in practice sessions. I’m interested in picking up what numbers I’m repeating frequently (those signature numbers we keep talking about) so I’ll know what to bet when I’m playing for real. |

Author: f.Leong Slogan: rhythm dice setter Excellent response from Irishsetter. Practice is the key to having above average number of rolls per session. Then money management will ensure that you wind up winning. QUIT when you are ahead! Since you are just starting out on dice setting, you should go downtown Vegas and try the low limit minimum games first. Union Plaza has $2 minimum with 10x odds. Binions also but 10x odds on $5 bets. Casino Royale has $1 minimum tables. After you have mastered the dicesetting and rhythm throwing and your confidence is better then you can play on the strip at the $5 & $10 minimum tables. This way you minimize your risk of losing. |

Author: irishsetter Home Page: ~meow! ~ ..err I mean ~woof!~ Here are some troubleshooting techniques. Use 2 different colored dice. This way you can see if you’re having trouble with one particular die (left or right). I have also tried an idea that was spawned by the Heavy’s Got Mail article. In the article, the woman practices by throwing the dice into a pan of flour to see if at the point of impact the dice were on axis. Flour seemed to be a bit messy to me, so I filled a cat litter box with sand. I put the container on my practice table and threw the dice into it. It’s the same theory as the woman who corresponded with Heavy. You can see EXACTLY how the dice were going to impact the table, whether they were on axis or not etc. It will also assist with practicing hitting a target area. Give it a try. (Just make sure you cover the container when you’re done practicing if you have a cat) Good Luck! |

Author: Matthew Cook Slogan: If you can’t be good, be good at it. My addition would be a suggestion to try a different location at the table. You don’t mention your position. I prefer as close as I can get to the left of the Stickman. |
